How Many Appointments Will I Need?

Dr. Gentile will ask patients to return to the practice a few days later to remove any drains. You will then be asked to come after a week to remove any sutures and monitor recovery. Dr. Gentile will let you know when he would like to see you next. The number of appointments varies from patient to patient, depending on the complexity of the case.

How Long Until I See Results?

A neck lift gradually shows its results as swelling subsides. The final neck contour should be visible six months to a year after surgery.

What to Expect
on the Day of
Neck Lift Surgery

On the day of your neck lift at Gentile Plastic Surgery, Dr. Gentile and his staff will receive you at the practice, settle you in our state-of-the-art surgical suite, and review your surgical plan to ensure you are still comfortable with it and have no outlying questions or concerns. Once you give the final go-ahead, a board-certified anesthesiologist will administer anesthesia to make you comfortable with the procedure.

Once sedated, Dr. Gentile will begin the procedure by skillfully creating an incision under the chin. He will access the underlying tissue through this incision to extract unwanted fatty tissue and tighten the underlying muscle. He might need additional incisions to remove any excess skin. These are usually around the back of the ear and in areas with minimal scarring. He will close the incisions with sutures once he has tightened the neck and jawline to your aesthetic goals. He will place a compression garment on your neck area to minimize the swelling and help with recovery.

On average, without complications, a neck lift will take around two hours to complete.

Neck Lift Recovery

After your neck lift, you will be monitored in the recovery room until your sedation wears off. Patients are advised to have a family member or friend drive them home.

Post-surgery, it is common to experience minor swelling, bruising, and discomfort in the neck area. Dr. Gentile will provide you with specific instructions on how to care for your incisions, manage pain, and minimize swelling, including insisting that you wear the compression garment.

Resting and avoiding strenuous activities during the initial days after the procedure is recommended.
