PRP AND I-PRF PLATELET RICH AGGREGATES NOW AVAILABLE FOR USE WITH LASER SKIN REJUVENATION, DERMAL FILLERS, VAMPIRE VIVA AND MICRO AND NANOFAT GRAFTING

The use of autologous platelet concentrates, represent a promising and innovator tools in medicine including Plastic Surgery. The goal is to accelerate soft tissue healing. Among them, the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is the main alternative for use in liquid form (injectable). These injectable form of platelet concentrates are often used in regenerative procedures and demonstrate good results. A second generation form of platelet concen- trate is i-PRF a platelet-rich fibrin in liquid form (injectable). These platelet concentrates propose an acceleration in healing of soft tissues by increasing the concentration of growth factors such as transforming growth factor-b (TGF-b), insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), fibroblast growth factor (FGF), epidermal growth factor (EGF) and platelet-derived epidermal growth factor (PDEGF). i-PRF consists of an autologous leukocyte-platelet-rich fibrin matrix, com- posed of a tetra molecular structure, with cytokines, platelets, and stem cells within it, which acts as a biodegradable scaffold that favors the development of micro vascularization and is able to guide epithelial cell migration to its surface. Also i-PRF may serve as a vehicle in carrying cells involved in tissue regeneration and seems to have a sustained release of growth factors in a period between 1 and 4 weeks, stimulating the environment for wound healing in a significant amount of time. Sounds pretty similar to PRP right? There’s one key difference that could make i-PRF a more effective treatment in the future . According to Dr. Gentile “i-PRF appears to target the same issues as PRP, but it releases the growth factors over time, which means it could have longer-term benefits. The growth factors are what stimulate the stem cells that improve collagen and elastin in the skin. The platelets in i-PRF are thought to survive better than those in PRP, and therefore promote faster heal-
ing.” Mesenchymal or Stem Cells are also included in i-PRF.
